The Distributist System, Catholicism, J.R.R. Tolkien, And His Distributist Hobbits

10 June, 2025

by Jeb Smith What Is Distributism Socialism and capitalism are not at war with each other—they are in cahoots with each other. They have formed that unholy alliance, the servile state—big government propped up by big business, and big business propped up by big government.-Dale Ahlquist, et al., The Hound of Distributism: A Solution for … More The Distributist System, Catholicism, J.R.R. Buildings, Babies, and Changing Our Thinking

7 August, 2023

by Thomas Storck Although there are still quite a number of people clinging to the idea that the world is afflicted by a crisis of overpopulation, those who are aware of the statistics know better. In fact, a demographic collapse seems much more likely than a crisis of too many people. Keeping in mind the … More Buildings, Babies, and Changing Our Thinking

Capitalism Eating Itself

20 January, 2023

One of the criticisms that have been made about the distributist movement is that we make false characterizations about capitalism. We take selective examples of abusive behavior taking place within capitalism and use them to criticize capitalism as a whole. We use terms like calling average employees the proletariat and “wage slaves” to reflect how … More Capitalism Eating Itself

Real and Ideal in Catholic Social Doctrine

15 December, 2022

by Thomas Storck Capitalism and communism are equally representative forms of this tendency of the world today not only to ignore Christianity, but to supplant it. To speak more precisely, the civilization of capitalism, as it was developed during the nineteenth century through the application to industry of the discoveries of experimental science, has … More Real and Ideal in Catholic Social Doctrine

Where does Distributism fit in?

23 September, 2022

One thing that seems to confuse many people looking at distributism is that they really can’t imagine a society beyond our current conservative/liberal or right/left paradigm. I believe this is the source of a good deal of the criticism against us. If we’re not conservative, then we must be liberal. If not liberal, then conservative. … More Where does Distributism fit in?

Distributism is not about government redistribution. Distributism (a.k.a. Localism) advocates the greatest amount of private, locally owned, independent businesses, focusing on strong local economies as the foundation of a strong national economy. It also advocates the decentralization of government authority over the current trend of relying on a central government that constantly increases its power.
