Localism

20 December, 2024

Earlier this year, Dale Ahlquist of the Society of G. K. Chesterton and Michael Warren Davis of The American Conservative presented a book titled Localism: Coming Home to Catholic Social Teaching. The Society of G. K. Chesterton has proposed using Localism as a new name for the Distributist movement. While I don’t agree with completely … More Localism

Money, Markets and Morals

18 December, 2024

Earlier this year, a collection of essays was published to present Catholic perspectives on economics and finance; Money, Markets and Morals, edited by Thomas Storck. In it, he lays out the story of its subtitle: “How greed and bad philosophy distorted Christ’s teaching.” While this book mainly addresses this in the United States, it also applies to much … More The Prosperity Gospel

Buildings, Babies, and Changing Our Thinking

7 August, 2023

by Thomas Storck Although there are still quite a number of people clinging to the idea that the world is afflicted by a crisis of overpopulation, those who are aware of the statistics know better. In fact, a demographic collapse seems much more likely than a crisis of too many people. Keeping in mind the … More Buildings, Babies, and Changing Our Thinking

Distributism is not about government redistribution. Distributism (a.k.a. Localism) advocates the greatest amount of private, locally owned, independent businesses, focusing on strong local economies as the foundation of a strong national economy. It also advocates the decentralization of government authority over the current trend of relying on a central government that constantly increases its power.
