Payday Lending

16 December, 2019

by Thomas Storck As we approach Christmas, the great feast of our Lord’s Nativity, many people are thinking about gift giving. But for many Americans, those with limited incomes and limited savings, gift giving can be an occasion more for anxiety than for joyful anticipation. With little money, some of these people might resort to … More Payday Lending

What is an embedded economy?

7 October, 2019

by Thomas Storck Probably nearly everyone would assent to the statement that the economy is meant to serve society, not the other way around. But despite the verbal acquiescence that would most likely be given to this statement, it is my contention that in fact for capitalist modernity most often the very opposite is true: … More What is an embedded economy?

That Old Time Religion

19 September, 2019

by Thomas Storck One of the frequent laments heard since the Second Vatican Council is that Catholics have forgotten their centuries-old heritage, and as a result, that heritage has not been transmitted to new generations of the faithful. Things that Catholics took for granted in the 1950s and earlier, such as knowledge of basic doctrine, … More That Old Time Religion

George Weigel Shifts the Goalposts

15 April, 2019

by Thomas Storck It can be tedious to untangle a web of misrepresentations, and I’m afraid that what I am about to write here may be tedious to some. A New Coca-Colonization?

10 December, 2018

LETTER TO MY EUROPEAN CORELIGIONISTS by Thomas Storck This article is a slight revision of “Lettre d’un catholique américain à ses amis français et européens,” published in L’Homme Nouveau, no. 1675, 24 November 2018, pp. 12-13. Although Anglo-Saxon North America began as simply an extension of Europe, settled entirely by Europeans – aside from African … More A New Coca-Colonization?

Continuing a Legacy of Dissent

27 November, 2018

By Thomas Storck One of the Acton Institute’s publicists, one Kishore Jayabalan, has given us distributists a kind of left-handed compliment recently – that is, he mentioned us, he recognized that distributists do exist! With regards to what he said about us, his article was simply misinformation, but that, unfortunately, is par for the course … More Continuing a Legacy of Dissent

Distributism is not about government redistribution. Distributism (a.k.a. Localism) advocates the greatest amount of private, locally owned, independent businesses, focusing on strong local economies as the foundation of a strong national economy. It also advocates the decentralization of government authority over the current trend of relying on a central government that constantly increases its power.
